Exploring The Faith is the name of a group at Christ Church, Seaside, aimed at helping people understand what goes on in church and to look at the Bible. This might lead to confirmation for some or act as a refresher for others. The group meets this evening at the vicarage in Addingham Road and on most Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm. A Coffee Morning will be held at Christ Church from 9.30am tomorrow morning (Wednesday), when there will be a few stalls and a small raffle. Computer training will also be available. Admission is free. A short Mass in the Memorial Chapel follows the coffee morning at 11.30am.

A Whist Drive for everyone who enjoys a friendly game of cards will be held in St Augustine’s Hall of Christ Church on Thursday October 18, starting at 2pm. The cost is £2.50 per person. For more information ring Gladys on 720885.

The Friendship Club for senior citizens meets on Thursday October 18 in the lounge of Duke Bernard Court, Latimer Road, from 2.15pm to 3.45pm. Members meet on a social basis to chat over a cup of tea, or take part in quizzes and games. The weekly subscription is 50p to cover the cost of refreshments. A Trafalgar Dinner will be held at the Langham Hotel on Thursday October 18, when Commander Roger Paine will be speaking about Admiral Lord Nelson. The food and wines will be Spanish, as the famous Battle of Trafalgar was fought off the Spanish coast. To book, call 731451.

A morning concert with a showcase of local talent will be held at Christ Church on Saturday October 20 at 11am. Admission is free with a retiring collection. Refreshments will be available afterwards.

The Carl Greenwood Trio will be performing at a Jazz Lunch at the Langham Hotel on Sunday October 21, between 12.30pm-3.30pm. To book, call 731451.

The NHS Retirement Fellowship next meets on Thursday October 25 when guest speaker Mr E Padget will give a talk called Rhodesia on Horseback.

The Fellowship meetings are held at the Blind Society Centre in Longstone Road at 2pm. The group is for anyone who has worked in any area of the medical profession within the NHS, and their spouse or partner. For further information call Hazel on 483454.

Classical guitarist Gabrielle Stephens will be performing in concert at Christ Church on Saturday October 27, starting at 7.30pm. A Motown Music Night will be held at the Arlington Arms in Seaside on Saturday October 27 from 8pm until late. Tickets are available now at £3 from the bar or call 724365 to book. All proceeds will be going to Macmillan to help people living with cancer.

A Children’s Hallowe’en Drop-In Workshop will be held at the Leaf hall in Seaside on Wednesday October 31 from 10am-4pm. Children of all ages are welcome and the cost is £3 each. There will be a range of spooky Hallowe’en accessories to make from bat-shaped biscuits to pumpkin muffins. All profit from the event will go towards a new roof for the Leaf Hall.

Items are currently needed for stalls at Christ Church’s forthcoming Autumn Fair, which will be held on Saturday November 3. If you have any new or good quality products that you can donate, they can be delivered to the church any weekday morning when someone will be available to take them from you. You are welcome to visit the church any weekday morning for a cup of tea or coffee and have a look around this historic building.

Bookings are now being taken for a lunch with Eastbourne’s soldier hero Joe Townsend, the Royal Marine commando who lost both legs whilst serving in Afghanistan. Joe will be speaking about his extraordinary experiences, including being flown 115 metres into the Olympic stadium with the flame at the opening of the Paralympic Games and he will be bringing his Paralympic torch with him to the lunch. The lunch is on Saturday November 10 at 12 noon for 12.30pm at the Langham Hotel. A raffle will be held for Team True Spirit, a charity that helps support recovering injured servicemen.
