RECENTLY there has been much to celebrate at Greenfield Methodist Church in Old Town, as they have been given an ‘Awards for All’ grant from the National Lottery. The money has been used to landscape and make a special play area for the Jenny Wren Nursery who meet each week on the premises. The improvements will also benefit other young people who use the church including the Little Wrens nursery group and the Girls Brigade.

The grant has also enabled the church to purchase other items such as a storage shed for play equipment and a children’s bench as well as other play and gardening equipment.

Pathways around the church have also been improved to make them safer for all users of the church buildings. The opening of this new and exciting venture will be performed by Eastbourne’s local MP Stephen Lloyd followed by a prayer of dedication by the Church Minister Rev Peter Howard on Saturday, July 7 at 9am.

After the ceremony the nursery will be singing a few of their favourite songs and there will also be a chance to see some of the children’s work.

At 10am the church’s popular monthly Coffee Morning will open until 11.30am. Everyone is invited to to what promises to be a very happy morning of celebration.

A SUMMER Fayre takes place at Ocklynge Junior School, Victoria Drive, on Friday, July 13, 2.30pm-4.30pm. Bounce on the castle, play a few Olympic-themed games, have a cuppa and purchase home-grown produce. All funds raised will go towards the new school minibus. Everyone is welcome – just turn up.
