HOPE you enjoyed Smugfest at the Smugglers on Saturday, the event which stands in for Pevfest, the once highly popular event that died in scenes of boozing and violence a year ago. Pevfest boasted 50 bands playing in pubs around Pevensey and Pevensey Bay. However, by 5pm there were people walking the streets with beer cans and vodka bottles and the atmosphere had changed. Police attended and made two arrests. The Bay Hotel also closed its doors because of the trouble.
Smugfest booked a bouncy castle, an outside bar and BBQ, several bands outside and, in the evening, Sticks and Stones in the bar. This column went to bed before it started – but I hope the weather held fine.
