DOWN YOUR WAY (July 10th): Herstmonceux and Wartling

HERSTMONCEUX Bowls Club is still missing one of its main players but that’s no excuse, they need a little bit of a team talk.

For their first match of the week Horam came to Herstmonceux for a ladies match and went home feeling good, winning by 17 shots.

Not a lot better when our team went to Hailsham for a friendly - Hailsham 116, Herstmonceux, 71. Need I say more?

There was one bright spot, a match everybody enjoys when E.S.A.B visited. It’s always a good afternoon with lots of fun and banter and, as always, both teams did well, ending in a bit of a draw.

JAZZ in the garden: What an event we are promised. The Sara Lee Trust is staging this event at Butlers Farmhouse, Butlers Lane, Herstmonceux on July 28, from 5pm. The Pete Willson Quartet will provide the music and we are invited to take a picnic, relax in the beautiful garden, enjoy a glass or two and then just sit back and enjoy the music. A raffle will be run and tickets at £10 each (children free) are available on 01424 456608.

SUMMER BALL: HATS still has just a few tickets left for July 13 when they hold their Summer Ball featuring The Seaford Rock and Jazz Orchestra. The doors open from 7.30pm, a licensed pay bar will run throughout, and tickets at £10 each to include a buffet are available on 832117/832227.

A REMINDER the Robin Post Singers will perform at All Saints Church on July 15, 3pm, to which we are all invited. They will perform a variety of songs. Refreshments will be served during the interval and a retiring collection taken in aid of the Friends of All Saints Church.
