DOWN YOUR WAY (July 10TH): Hampden Park

FOR the many fans of Chris Mannion’s expertise on the organ, Hampden Park welcomes this popular entertainer at various times during the summer. On Tuesday, July 17, at the Hampden Park Community Centre, Brodrick Road, 2pm-4pm. Tickets available at the door but do get there in plenty of time to avoid disappointment. He will appear again at various times until mid-September.

IS A young person in your family yearning to have the opportunity to try their hand at theatre, music or dancing, but because of a health problem or disability, has not been able to pursue this dream? That could shortly be a ‘thing of the past’ thanks to ‘The Power Project.’

This is a new project spearheaded by Jade Powers, who has been in the professional theatre for 30 years, and it is her dream to bring these skills to young people so far been denied this chance.

On Friday, July 20, at 6pm there is a general meeting at the Willingdon Trees Community Centre in Maywood Avenue, to discuss the possibility of introducing regular classes, to be held on a Friday, at a time to be arranged. If you feel this is something you would love your young people to be involved in, go along to this important meeting and find out more.

IT IS Summer Fair time again, and this time you can enjoy not only stalls, bottle tombola and a raffle, but a selection of mouth-watering ploughman’s lunches as well! At St Peter’s Community Hall in The Hydneye on Saturday, July 21, noon to 2pm, their Summer Fair will be in full swing, complete with a bouncy castle. Treat yourselves to ‘lunch out’ and support this enjoyable event at the same time.

A WORD to all Hampden Park and Willingdon Trees plant lovers - treat yourself to some new plants and support a vital local cause. On Saturday, July 28, 11am-5pm, the Princess Diana Garden in Station Approach in the village will open as part of the Hospice Open Gardens Scheme in aid of St Wifrid’s Hospice. As well as being able to stroll round and admire the garden, there will be plants and books for sale, as well as cold refreshments. The day is being arranged by members of Hampden Park in Bloom.

ST MARY’S Church in Decoy Drive is joining forces with St Peter’s Church in the Hydneye on Sunday, July 29, for a combined Eucharist Service at St Peter’s at 10am. Everyone is welcome, and refreshments will follow.

WE ALL like to live life to the full, but sometimes a lack of self-confidence holds us back. Thanks to a free workshop at the end of the month, you could become a more positive and confident person. The Street Learning team is running this event, 10.30am-1.30pm at the Willingdon Trees Community Centre, Maywood Avenue, and you will have the chance to explore the reasons for any lack of self-confidence, and find ways to change positively for the future.
