Herstmonceux Bowls Club

Are fast coming to the end of their season now and it was fortunate that on their visit to Horam to play against their ladies team, the weather was fine and the sun shone and what made it an even better afternoon was that Herstmonceux came away the winners which sadly was not the case when Hasting came here to play in a Friendly match.

Things improved a bit for their last League match and it was Groombridge who came to Herstmonceux and after a great match our home team were victorious, the final score being 86 shots to Herstmonceux, 60 to Groombridge giving the home team six points on the league table. One last match and a very special match which took in a visit to Worthing to play on their wonderful Greens and as has been the tradition for the past few years, Hellingly joined them to play in a Friendly.

The weather was warm, the Greens a delight and they managed a win by tow shots. Herstmonceux Bowls club would like to pass on their thanks to Jean and Terry for organising the day and I would like to thank Rae for her weekly notes

The Merrie Harriers Bonfire Society Bonfire and Firework display will be held on the fields at the Merrie Harriers in Cowbeech on Friday October 26.They have had a great year fundraising and collecting for local good causes and they intend for this event, the last of this year, to be the biggest and the best yet.

A Jubilee Year Special with a professional display of pyrotechnics (fireworks to you and I)choreographed to the music of Queen.

As on previous years there will be a free to enter fancy dress and pumpkin-carving competitions mainly aimed at the children but there are classes for adults so please don’t despair. These start at 6.30pm and will be held in the car park of the pub.

The display field will open at 6.30pm and a barbecue will be available for burgers, hot dogs and bacon rolls not forgetting of course the Merrie Harriers Hog Roast and of course the bar.

The bonfire will be lit at about 7.15pm with the hopes that it will have burnt low enough to start the main event at about 8pm. A display the like of which you have never seen before, this is what you can expect from this very professional team from Brightfix as you can imagine the cost of fireworks rises year on year so they need, not just a good turnout.
