Down Your Way: Hampden Park and Willingdon Trees - April 25

REMEMBER the renovation of Decoy Pond in lovely Hampden Park? Well, now you have the chance of re-living the entire experience from start to finish!

Local photographer Vince Bobin filmed the progress and also took many fascinating wildlife photographs at the same time.

Both the film and the photos will be available for all to enjoy - and for free - on Friday, May 4, at St Mary’s Church hall, Decoy Drive, 7pm. Refreshments available and it is hoped a representative of Eastbourne Borough Council Parks and Gardens team will answer from the questions the audience.

IT IS all happening at the Hampden Park Sports Centre in Brodrick Road! Keep reading for events to suit everyone, adults and children alike.

EASTBOURNE is having a Sports Festival, with Hampden Park Sports Centre being one of the key venues. It is on Saturday, May 12 and Sunday May 13, noon-5pm and open to all. A wide range of sports will be available to try, with changes every hour, to give everyone as much variety as possible. Each ‘class’ costs just £1, with all proceeds going to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. Find out at, www.eastbourne.gov.uk/sportsfestival

NOW the children are back at school after the Easter Holidays, the eight to 12-year-olds can go along there on a Thursday 5pm-6pm and enjoy a game of football supervised by an expert coach. This goes on until the summer, and there is no need to book, children can just turn up on the night and have a good time.

FOR adults who would like to combine exciting Latin dancing, with exercise, to get in shape for the summer, the same Sports Centre has started weekly Zumba classes, on a Thursdays, 7.45pm-8.45pm - find out more on 01323 509859.

MANY of us would prefer, given the choice, a bit of gentle exercise as an alternative to taking medication, where possible. The Sports Centre now has a GP Referral System in place, which means if you are perhaps being advised to lose a little weight, or recovering from an illness that would benefit from some light exercise supervised by a trained coach, you can ask your GP to fill in a referral form which you take to the Centre. The coach will assess your situation, taking advice from the GP into account, then put you on a programme to suit your needs. Have a chat with your GP and see if you can qualify.

HERE is your chance to show your General Knowledge prowess and raise money for a brilliant local charity at the same time. Teams can be up to a maximum of eight for a Quiz Night on Saturday, May 19, at the Hampden Park Community Centre in Brodrick Road, 6.30pm for a 7pm start. It is a ‘themed’ night so ‘Come Dressed to Impress’. Dig out your glad rags, as there will be a prize for the snazziest table! There is a professional quizmaster and bar (profits from to the Community Centre, who have graciously offered the hall for free. All proceeds from the quiz will go to ‘Chloe’s Fight For Sight’, our lovely young Hampden Park lady who has lost her sight due to a rare genetic disorder. More Quiz Night details on 01323 502145, or from Paperlane in Brassey Parade.
