STAFF, volunteers and supporters of St Wilfrid’s Hospice gathered last week to dedicate the site of the new hospice and to mark the official start of building work.

The new centre, which is planned for Broadwater Way, will double the capacity of the hospice. It was celebrated on Monday at a ceremony where a large crowd congregated to hear dedication prayers led by hospice chaplain Reverend Tom Duncanson.

Among the guests were Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd, mayor Councillor Carolyn Heaps and volunteers and staff from years gone by.

To mark the occasion, a host of white doves were released.
