STUDENTS studying on the CELTA course at Sussex Downs College in Eastbourne had a double celebration - not only had the entire class passed but they also had a refund on course fees.
Back in September when they enrolled, adult funding had been withdrawn by central government. However, during December the college learnt students would get a refund of £200 to all and £1,000 for those on benefits.
Tasveer Shemza, curriculum leader, said, “We are delighted the government recognised the importance of CELTA as the qualification for English language teachers. It is a short, practical course leading directly to employment. Students from this course will work in Eastbourne and abroad from January.”
The Cambridge CELTA is the longest-established and most widely-known of the English language teaching preliminary certificates available. It offers participants the opportunity to become familiar with many aspects of English language teaching and to practise teaching overseas students in a supervised environment.
