District Commander Dick Coates: ‘We need to build on our success’

Have your say

APRIL sees the start of the new police performance year so it’s a good time to reflect on how well your local team has performed in the last 12 months.

Overall, crime has dropped in the last 12 months by nine per cent which means 462 fewer victims of crime this year which is excellent news.

All crime areas show reductions. Criminal damage is down 15 per cent, burglary of houses down 10 per cent, car crime down a massive 21 per cent and assault causing injury down by 4.5 per cent.

We have also detected more crime than in previous years, especially around the area of burglary, and targeting those that cause the most harm to our communities.

This performance would not have been achieved without the support of all our partner agencies, the Safer Wealden Partnership, whose fantastic assistance especially around criminal damage enabled such a good reduction, and finally the public of Wealden.

The support we get on the district from the communities we serve assists us in directing our resources to focus on what really matters to you.

The updates you all provide really do help and we listen to these very carefully. Without your constant support we would not be able to operate so effectively.

Thank you for this.

There are now challenges ahead. We now need to maintain and build on these reductions and the force policing plan has set us crime reduction and detection targets for the coming year which we will strive to achieve again making our communities safer.

We are also fully committed to keeping you informed and providing a first-class quality service in the coming months and listening to your needs and tackling the things that matter to you.

My staff and myself are fully committed to delivering a quality police service to the public of Wealden and I know that our partners will do all they can to assist with this.

Wealden has really low levels of crime and my aim is to keep it that way. Together we can achieve this.

If you wish to discuss any issues around the policing of Wealden please feel free to send me an email at richard.coates@sussex.pnn.police.uk

Proud to be serving Wealden
