DISABLED people visiting the DGH will soon benefit from more Blue Badge specific parking spaces.
The trust which runs the hospital and its sister site in nearby Hastings is building extra spaces nearer to main entrances which will be free for up to three hours.
The changes will take affect on October 17 and see the number of disabled bays at the DGH jump from 38 to 40 – well above the 16 recommended by national guidelines.
George Melling, commercial director at the hospital, said, “We have listened to Blue Badge holders’ feedback about their current parking arrangements at both hospitals.
“We have increased the number of disabled spaces and put them closer to the entrances to the hospitals, reducing the travel distance before entering the hospital.
“Additional signage will be put in place to direct blue badges holders to these new spaces and away from the barrier controlled ‘pay on exit’ car park which will no longer have any free disabled parking spaces.”
