A HAPPILY married Wilingdon couple marked 60 years of wedded bliss together this week and are celebrating with friends and family.

David and Renee Paine, of The Cloisters, met while working at an insurance company in Hastings.

The couple were unaware they had taken the same Civil Service Exam in 1947 and bumped into each other at work.

Their life of love and happiness grew and they were married in 1952 at St Andrew’s Church in Hastings, which was torn down to make way for an ASDA supermarket and its car park.

David says he feels as if he is ‘parking on holy ground’ when he and his wife get their shopping.

The couple have lived in Eastbourne for 25 years and couldn’t be happier. They have two children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

David said, “I feel truly blessed to have such a large family.”

They are both looking forward to celebrating their Diamond Wedding over two days.

They will start the celebrations with a family event at the Hydro Hotel followed by another celebration at the Italian restaurant La Locanda Del Duca with family and friends.

Together they have a guide to a happy marriage and often show it to the younger members of the family.

David said, “We believe the ability to give and take, love and loyalty, friendship, honesty, family and friends and our own interests is the making of a long and successful marriage.”

David and Renee are now awaiting a card from the Queen to commemorate the milestone anniversary and look forward to many more happy years together.
