A volunteer who spends much of her time helping young people has been crowned February’s Resident of the Month.
Iris Tipping is a driving force for young people at the Salvation Army in Langney Road.
She runs a mother and toddler group every Monday and Wednesday at The Citadel, as well as a youth club and Sunday School.
When Iris retired from primary school teaching a few years ago, she was still keen to help youngsters and took on the mother and toddler group.
This led to her getting involved with other groups and she now also organises social activities such as bowling and camping trips.
The Resident of the Month Award recognises unsung heroes in the town and is sponsored jointly by Advanta Chartered Accountants and the Eastbourne Herald.
Richard King, a director at Advanta, presented Iris with her award and said, “Iris is a lovely lady who dedicates much of her time to helping the young people in this town.
“She makes sure they have fun activities to take part in and I’m delighted to give her the recognition that she deserves.”
As part of her award, Iris will receive a complimentary meal for two at Ridgways restaurant in Meads.
