EASTBOURNE mum Kerry Howell is celebrating after her daughter sold her the winning ticket in this year’s Arndale Shopping Centre Win A Car charity draw.
Kerry, 46, from Polegate, scooped a new Suzuki Swift after buying tickets from her daughter Lauren who was helping Eastbourne Rowing Club sell them in the annual Arndale draw - one of 42 charities to benefit from this year’s event.
Kerry, a science technician at St Bede’s Senior School, said, “When I bought the tickets from Lauren I never expected to actually win the car. I was support ing Eastbourne Rowing Club where my daughter was captain last year. She is back from Uni and offered to help sell tickets.
“When I found out I had won I was over the moon - I honestly thought it was a joke at first. I was only doing my bit for charity. I am thrilled. I’ve only ever won a box of chocolates in a raffle before.”
With three daughters, the 1.2 litre Suzuki, worth £10,000, will come in very handy for Kerry and her husband, and may yet become Lauren’s first car. Kerry said, “We are always running our daughters here, there and everywhere so maybe now our eldest can run herself around.”
This year’s charity draw raised more than £21,000. It is the 10th draw organised by the Arndale Shopping Centre which has raised £174,000 in total.
Centre manager Bill Plumridge said, “I would like to thank everyone who bought tickets for the draw.
“This year’s total is particularly impressive given the weather conditions we have experienced and the disruption to travel.
“Congratulations to Kerry for winning the great little Suzuki.”
