HUNDREDS headed down to the seafront on Christmas Day and Boxing Day to enjoy free concerts at the town’s bandstand.
Children got on their new bikes, scooters and roller skates as the band played festive music.
Many donned Santa hats for the occasion and enjoyed a walk along the promenade.
The beachside cafes opened to sell mulled wine to revellers.
The long-standing festive tradition featured the talents of Eastbourne Silver Band who performed a traditional concert on Christmas Day.
On Boxing Day the Ray Campbell Dance Band provided the soundtrack to brave (some might say foolhardy) swimmers who enjoyed their customary dip in the sea.
The free festive concerts started back in 1935 and have become a firm favourite with the town’s residents.
“There’s a fantastic community atmosphere with everyone getting into the Christmas spirit. We are delighted to continue the New Year’s Day Concert for 2012 too and it promises a brilliant way to celebrate what is set to be a great year for tourism in Eastbourne.”
The Lion Hotels Group also made sure the bandstand was suitably decorated for the festive season this year by supplying and dressing Christmas trees with lights to line the stage and seafront around the landmark.
A third free concert will take place on New Year’s Day as the Ray Campbell Dance Band kicking 2012 off with a New Year’s Day Concert from 11am to 12.30pm.
