A 24-YEAR-OLD woman has been jailed for making a false allegation of rape against an innocent man.
Anne Marie Lusha, of Etchingham Road, Eastbourne, was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment by a judge at Lewes Crown Court after being convicted of making a false allegation of rape and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Lusha contacted police in June 2010 and told officers she had been raped by a 29-year-old man from the Eastbourne area.
The man was identified and arrested at his place of work. The court heard he spent 11 hours in custody where he was required to provide intimate samples and was released on conditional police bail.
It was three months later, when presented with the result of the police investigation, that Lusha admitted she had made up the allegation.
She was arrested, interviewed and charged.
The officer in the case, Detective Sergeant Ross Bartlett, said, “To make a false allegation of rape is a very serious step to take.
“If found out police will seek to prosecute you and you will be dealt with very robustly at court, as is reflected by the prison sentence in this case.
“However, if you have a genuine allegation of rape or sexual abuse to make then please contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999.”
