Victim fights back after attempted robbery in Eastbourne

Thieves got more than they bargained for when they tried to rob a man walking home late at night in Eastbourne.

The man in his 30s was walking in Seaside on Friday night when he was attacked near the bus stop outside the YMCA.

Police say that the incident happened at around 11.15pm when the man was approached by a man who snatched his phone and punched and pushed him, causing a graze to his head.

However, the victim fought back and managed to grab his phone back before his assailant ran off with another man.

Police say the assault was witnessed by youngsters nearby who called the police.

DC Hugh Charles said: “Local teenagers witnessed the attempted theft and assault and I thank them for ringing police straight away.

“We made a search of the area but still are seeking two white men aged around 19 to early 20s.

“We believe they may have been associated with a hen party heading to a local pub.

“Anyone who has information is asked to contact police on 101 of the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
