A TEENAGER who punched a man unconscious outside Kings nightclub has been given a last chance to avoid prison.
Victim Adam Leslie was left “traumatised,” after he was knocked out by John Kirtley, of St Mary’s Road, Eastbourne, after an argument between the pair escalated outside of the night spot on November 23.
At Eastbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, March 17, the 19-year-old narrowly avoided prison after pleading guilty to assault occasioning ABH.
The court heard how the pair were coming out of the club when the defendant was seen trying to provoke the victim.
As the victim tried to walk away, the defendant punched him to the side of his face, knocking him unconscious.
Prosecuting, Elizabeth Green told the court the victim had been “quite traumatised,” by the event.
Kirtley was sentenced to an 18 month community order and 200 hours of unpaid work.
He was ordered to pay the victim £100 in compensation.
Presiding magistrate Pauline Jackson said, “This was a very nasty attack.
“Although no permanent injury was caused, the victim has been left in a traumatised state.
“We did consider custody. We are going to give you this last chance.”
