A SCAMMING device to rob people of their bank cards has been found in a Hailsham cash point machine.
The device, known as a Lebanese Loop, was discovered by an off-duty police officer in South Road.
The device is placed over the card slot of the machine with a loop inside which holds onto the unsuspecting customer’s card.
Assuming their card has been retained by the bank, the customer leaves and the criminal then returns to the machine and removes their card.
Hailsham Police spokesperson Jamie Harwood said people should be extra vigilant when using cash point machines.
He said, “There are many different devices that are used on cash point machines and these can be found very simply by going onto the internet.
“People should be very careful and remember to cover the keypad when entering pin numbers and check cash point machines for anything out of the ordinary. If their card is taken by a machine, they should phone the bank immediately for advice.”
Anyone who discovers anything attached to a machine should call Sussex police on 0845 60 70 999.
