Police are hunting a Hailsham man in connection with two fires in Eastbourne – one of which endangered the lives of two people.
Thomas White, 23, is wanted on suspicion of an arson at an address in Acacia Road on September 19 when a wheelie bin was set on fire outside.
He is also wanted on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life at the same address on September 29 when the front door of a flat was set on fire.
On the second occasion a man and a woman were rescued by the fire service and treated at the scene by paramedics for the effects of smoke inhalation.
White, who is described as white and heavily built, with blue eyes and brown hair, is also wanted for breaching a court-issued restraining order and on suspicion of harassment, all of which relate to domestic abuse incidents which are currently under investigation.
He has links to the Salford area of Greater Manchester and police are making enquiries there as well as in Eastbourne and Hailsham.
Detective Constable Natalie Brown of the East Sussex Safeguarding Investigation Unit said, “The outcome of the second fire could have been far worse had not the fire service installed a smoke alarm system after the first incident.”
Anyone who knows White’s whereabouts is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 with reference 171 of 27/9. You can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
