THE MAN who fell more than 30ft from the Arndale Centre car park to his death has been named.

Police were called to the scene at the Arndale Centre in Eastbourne at 10.20am on Thursday (March 15) following a report that a man had fallen.

He has now been named as Peter Marshall of Kingsmead Way in Seaford.

The 53-year-old was seen to fall from the centre’s car park entry ramp onto the pavement below in the service road off Ashford Road.

According to management at the busy shopping centre, the man had earlier been spotted on CCTV walking up the ramp.

A centre security guard was sent to investigate but before he could reach him, the man had climbed onto a protective wall and fallen.

Emergency services were sent to the scene and paramedics tried to revive him. The road at the back of the Arndale centre was closed for some time and the area cordoned off as detectives tried to work out if the man had fallen or jumped.

Police are investigating the circumstances which are not believed to be suspicious. An inquest has been opened and adjourned.
