A cyclist opened the door of a car waiting in a line of traffic in Hailsham’s High Street and launched an attack on one of the passengers.

The man was hit in the face several times, before the cyclist made off in the direction of Market Street on a silver mountain bike.

The attack took place at about 12.30pm yesterday (August 6).

The car was a white Ford Fiesta and the attacker is described as being of mixed race appearance with tattoos on his neck.

He was wearing a black jacket with the words ‘Barbour International’ written on the front in yellow.

Urging witnesses to come forward, Sergeant Mark Evans said, “The incident happened at lunchtime and the town was busy as usual, so I am sure many people will have seen this happen or noticed a man making off as described.”

Anyone with information is asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101, quoting serial 587 of 6/08.
