A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 46-year-old died in hospital after being found outside a public loo.

The 46-year-old man, who has not yet been identified, was found in Brassey Avenue near Hampden Park railway station at around 7.30pm on Saturday.

He was initially thought to have only minor injuries and was taken to the DGH but his condition soon worsened and he was moved to Hurstwood Park Neurosciences Centre in Haywards Heath but died at 6.15pm on Sunday.

A post mortem is due to take place tomorrow. The man’s next of kin have been informed but he has not been formally identified or publicly named.

A 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

He has been released on bail without charge until October 28.

Detective Inspector Ian Williams said, “We have yet to establish exactly what happened and the death is as yet unexplained. It is believed that something happened between the two men but exactly what is unclear.

“However we understand that there were several passers-by present at the time, some of whom may have spoken briefly to police officers, and we are appealing for them to come forward.

“We would also like to hear from anyone else who witnessed the events before police arrived. Brassey Avenue, is very close to Hampden Park railway station and local shops, and so would have been quite busy at that time early on Saturday evening.”
