Harbour man, 32, quizzed by Suffolk police after Bury St Edmonds stabbing

AN EASTBOURNE man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder this week.

Detectives and officers swooped on the 32-year-old man’s address in Sovereign Harbour on Tuesday afternoon.

He was taken in to be quizzed over his alleged involvement with an attempted murder in Bury St Edmunds on New Year’s Day.

The man, who has not been named, was driven to the Bury Police Investigation Centre and was still being questioned as the Herald went to press yesterday (Thursday).

A major investigation has been launched in the Suffolk town after a man suffered stab wounds in the early hours of Sunday between 4.30am and 5.30am.

Officers were called to a property in the town’s main shopping area on New Year’s Day where they discovered the injured man. He was rushed to Suffolk Hospital, where his condition is described as stable.

The arrested Eastbourne man - together with two other men from the Bury area - are being interviewed by detectives from Suffolk

Police were granted an extra 36 hours by Bury St Edmunds Magistrates Court to question them. That was then extended until 7pm tonight (Friday)
