A BURGLAR threatened an elderly man in his own home during a break-in at the weekend.

The victim was left frightened and suffered minor injuries after confronting the thief at 6.30am on Saturday (January 15).

The burglar activated an external burglar alarm at the house in Kingston Road and the elderly homeowner went out to investigate and check his property.

Police say the man disturbed the offender who then forced him back inside the house and threatened him.

The man then handed over a quantity of cash.

The suspect is described as white, aged 20 to 30, about 6ft tall, and of slim to medium build.

He was wearing a dark jacket with the hood up, dark trousers, and possibly gloves or fingerless gloves. He spoke with a local accent.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hardy from Eastbourne CID said, “This was obviously an extremely alarming experience for the victim who did receive minor injuries in the incident.

“If you were around Kingston Road or Sackville Road early on Saturday morning and saw a man meeting the description or anything else that you may now consider suspicious, please call 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 312 of 15/01.
