BRITISH Transport Police (BTP) investigators are appealing for information after an Eastbourne passenger’s suitcase was stolen on a train between Gatwick Airport and Haywards Heath.

Officers have also released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident, which took place on December 12.

PC Peter Cooke, the investigating officer, said, “The victim boarded the train at Gatwick Airport around 5.30pm but had to leave her suitcase by the doors as the train was fairly busy. As the train pulled away from Haywards Heath the 42-year-old woman noticed her case was missing and reported the theft to staff and police.”

The suitcase contained the victim’s clothes, make-up and toiletries, as well as a pair of her glasses needed for driving.

Officers are carrying out enquiries into the theft and are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

A CCTV image has been released of a man officers want to identify and talk to in connection with the theft.

Anyone with information, or who recognises the man pictured in the CCTV image, left, should contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference B9/LSA of 04/01/11.
