A 30-year-old Eastbourne teacher was due to appear before a French judge this morning to face extradition proceedings back to the UK.

Jeremy Forrest, a maths teacher at Bishop Bell School, was arrested in Bordeaux on Friday after a warrant was issued for child abduction of a 15-year-old.

He has been remanded in custody at Gradignan prison.

Mr Forrest’s lawyers have said that the married man from Ringmer, will not fight extradition proceedings against him and has agreed to return to the UK as soon as possible. A ruling is expected to be made today by judges.

Phil Smith, from Tuckers Solicitors, said in a statement, “He has agreed to return to the UK as soon as possible without the need for protracted extradition proceedings.”

Mr Forrest’s lawyers say that their client has been well treated in custody.
