Hailsham Cricket Academy’s Under-13 team took part in their first tournament since their formation in October last year – and emerged triumphant.
They won the six-a-side tournament at Horntye Park, Hastings, in dramatic style.
Chasing Gildredge House’s 65-5 in the final, it came don to the last two balls of the event. Hailsham lost a wicket on the penultimate delivery, putting immense pressure on the striking batsman to not lose his wicket.
Keeping his composure the ball was blocked and this sparked scenes of jubilation amongst the Hailsham squad as they had won their first tournament.
They had earlier beaten Hastings Academy, Rye Community College and William Parker School.
Coach Rob Wilkinson said, “I am so proud of the boys today. After four months hard work in the nets and at the gym they fully deserved this success. Their attitude and commitment has been superb and all involved with the team are delighted with today’s performance and result.”
