STONE Cross Windmill had its sweeps and cap removed for essential maintenance works this week.
A cherry picker and a crane were on the site for two days at a cost of £3,000 to Stone Cross Mill Trust.
The sweeps and cap were being taken down by the crane for their 10-year refurbishment and repair works.
Trustees at Stone Cross Mill said it was a massive undertaking which involved precision and patience.
The total cost of the refurbishment is not yet known as experts need to look at the sweeps and cap once they are on the ground to see what works need to be carried out.
Trustees have thanked the mill’s maintenance team and Coussens which has supplied the crane.
