A NEW loyalty card for Eastbourne will be at the cutting edge of technology, councillors have said.
The card will encourage people to spend their money in Eastbourne to get discounts or rewards.
It will be available to residents and visitors to Eastbourne and replace the old Eastbourne Resident’s Card which now has limited uses.
Planning for the scheme is still in the early stages, as Eastbourne Borough Council looks at different technologies that could be used.
The council is also favouring a technology that will collect spending data, meaning targeted marketing can be done.
Tory Cllr Patrick Warner spoke at the meeting and said it was regrettable there was a delay with the loyalty card.
However, Cllr David Tutt, leader of the council said it was better to do it right than rush it and get it wrong.
Cllr Neil Stanley said, “What we are looking at is cutting edge technology.
“We are moving ahead of other councils and we are ambitious here in Eastbourne.
“We need the right system that is going to meet people’s needs and I think we will have other authorities following our lead because no-one else has done it.“
Cllr Tutt added, “Technology is yet to catch up with the ideas we have got.”
