Decision makers in Eastbourne have attended a meeting this morning (Thursday, May 31) about the future of the pier.
The town’s MP Stephen Lloyd, council leaders, the Eastbourne Herald, the Chamber of Commerce and hoteliers were among the people who met at the Town Hall.
Staff employed on the pier and businesses with premises on the pier were identified as immediate priorities.
Accordingly, Eastbourne Borough Council will be liaising with the pier management company about both groups.
Plans are already being made by the council to give concessions located on the pier access to various other retail opportunities in Eastbourne, such as the weekly market and the upcoming Airbourne event.
In terms of the repairs and restoration of the pier, the council will be liaising with Cuerden Leisure, the owners of the pier, to find the most expedient route to the pier reopening.
The council would like to thank all the local people and visitors to the town who have been in touch with generous offers of help and support.
Further updates will be provided in due course.
