ALMOST 40 new houses look set to be built in Langney.
Town planners are next week expected to give the green light for the houses to be built in Appledore Close, Bathford Close and Sorrel Drive.
It will mean the demolition of older people’s accommodation of bedsits and flats in Kilkenny Court, Longford Court and Avon Court with the sites being redeveloped and three-bedroom houses built in their place.
Amicus Horizon is behind the plans to build 11 houses in both Appledore Close and Bathford Close and 17 houses in Sorrel Drive.
Eastbourne Borough Council says that there are too many older people’s housing schemes in Langney and larger family homes are needed in the area.
A borough council spokesperson said, “While we have an overwhelming demand for all types of affordable homes there is an acute shortage of affordable larger family homes in Eastbourne with consequential waiting times often extending to more than 10 years.
“This planning application, if approved, will assist those in need of affordable rented accommodation to be housed adequately.”
The three planning applications will be considered by Eastbourne Borough Council’s planning committee on Tuesday at the Town Hall. The meeting starts at 6pm.
