Coppelia - a most charming ballet

SOUTHERN Youth Ballet presents the ballet Coppelia at the Congress for one performance only at 4pm on Sunday, 29 November.

The story of the life-like doll and her devoted admirer who thinks she is human is one of the funniest and most charming of three-act ballets.

Since it was founded in 1996, Southern Youth Ballet has delighted ballet lovers with a variety of productions including original ballets and more traditional works.

Talented young dancers travelled from their homes to Eastbourne every Sunday for rehearsals. Now many of them have left to further their dancing careers.

Danny Hay Gordon and Louise Lister who danced principal roles in many of SYB's productions have now completed their training and have left the company to further their dancing careers.

That means SYB dancers who previously played smaller roles are now dancing leading roles.

Katie Morris, 17 will be dancing her first leading role as Anna in Coppelia. Katie, who attends Hailsham Community College and trains at Meads Dance School, will be dancing the Scottish solo in Ace 2.

Danny Louie Douglas, 14, has been dancing for just two years. He is in his first term at Legat at St Bedes, Upper Dicker, and will dance the role of Hans.

The role of the doll, Coppelia, will be danced by Isabelle Cronin, 11, who is a pupil at Ratton School.

The 35 musicians in the Southern Youth Ballet Orchestra are conducted by Kenneth Roberts.

Tickets are priced between 8 and 14. Call the box office on 412000 or credit card hotline 411555 to book a seat.
