Ann Harrison’s impressive entry won the Rager & Roberts’ magnificent Fortnum & Mason Christmas hamper for the second year running and she selected St Wilfrid’s Hospice to receive Rager & Roberts’ donation of £1,000.

“When we chose the properties that we had sold over the last 12 months to display in our valuation competition we selected a significant number of houses that we sold fairly recently which would not appear on the internet ‘sold’ register,” explained Richard Rager.

“This was intended to push entrants to use their own instinct rather than collate published sale figures but obviously it did not challenge Ann Harrison’s valuation skills.

“The number of entries increased this year, probably due to the easy access via our newly-designed website.

“This extra competition was no problem for Ann
who was a mere £28,391 short of the actual total of £20,848,638.

“The average entry was closer to the mark than in any other year over the last 21
that we have run this competition.

“Previously the great majority of estimates were very much on the low side.

“For the first time the number of entries that exceeded the correct sum were almost balanced by the number of those that were lower. We assume this is due to the positive reporting by the national press on the property market.

“Given a fair wind this will bode well for the property scene in 2014.”
