Community Wise is celebrating after being awarded a grant of £10,000 from the Asda Foundation, in honour of the supermarket’s 50th birthday.

The Asda Foundation is celebrating the 50th anniversary by supporting local good causes in the area.

Customers and colleagues at the Eastbourne store were asked to nominate local community projects, with Community Wise receiving the most votes.

Community Wise is a centre in the heart of Old Town which aims to promote community spirit,

The £10,000 grant is just one of over 70 being made to deserving communities and groups, up and down the country.

Asda is also celebrating being part of local communities for 50 years by ‘caking’ people’s day. Across different areas of the country, the #asdacakemyday tour will be visiting commendable colleagues, customers and charities with a special Asda cake and additional grants from the Asda Foundation.

Darren Evans, store manager at Asda Eastbourne, said, “We wanted to give back to a deserving cause in Eastbourne as a huge thank you for the work they do in the community – and Community Wise really fits the bill.

“As it’s our 50th birthday we wanted to celebrate with everyone who has helped make Asda what it is today these past 50 years.

“We care about the communities we work in and are always looking to support local causes in any way we can. ”

Set up in 1988, the Asda Foundation aims to have a positive impact on local communities, by providing support to a range of local good causes, chosen by Asda community life colleagues across the UK.
