More Devonshire ward community groups will be receiving cash from the Big Local lottery pot.

The next chunk of Lotto cash will be given out at the Devonshire West community grants fair on September 5.

The Big Local resident-led team has voted on which projects will receive funding in this round and the successful groups will have stalls to display their activities at the fair.

The first set of grants included a holiday play scheme, a community garden and an art project that connected Seaside Rec and the Towner.

Jane Dubery is the chair of Devonshire West Big Local.

She said, “We have been so pleased to see the wonderful things that have come out of the first lot of grants, and we really think that Big Local has started to make a difference to our area.

“We’ve got youth football on Seaside Rec on Tuesdays from 6pm and cookery classes for over 65s at the Venton Centre.

“There are monthly support sessions for unemployed women looking for some work advice and we’ve helped pay for the designs to make Leaf Hall fully accessible.

“My personal favourite: ukulele lessons, starting on Wednesday, September 9.”

The grant fair is at Eastbourne Blind Society in Longstone Road from 1pm to 3pm.

There will be free refreshments and the chance to get information or sign-up for Big Local activities.

Devonshire West is about half of the Devonshire ward, underneath the railway line and Whitley Road and from Beamsley Road to Terminus Road.

Big Local is a Lottery investment programme that offers £1 million over a decade to small communities to identify and deliver local improvement.
