Here's a few predictions for the year ahead…but first let's have a look at how my 2008 predictions turned out.

These were my predictions this time last year:

1.The Save the DGH campaign will continue, and will mount a series of challenges to the decisions taken by the PCT, and will have some success. CORRECT!

2.Local Post Offices will close CORRECT

3.Eastbourne Borough FC will win the Blue Square (South) League. Lewes will be runners up. Brighton will make the play offs in League One. WRONG on all counts

4.Eastbourne Tennis week will get a reprieve, and the tournament will continue. CORRECT

5.A major, chart topping band will play Eastbourne. WELL, SORT OF…

6.Parking in Eastbourne will continue to be a shambles. CORRECT FOR MOST OF THE YEAR BUT SOME SIGNS NOW OF IT GETTING BETTER

7.There will be a by-election on Eastbourne Borough Council WRONG

8.The council tax rise will be above the rate of inflation. CORRECT – WELL ABOVE

9.The Cultural Centre will finally open, following a further delay CORRECT ABOUT A FURTHER DELAY – WRONG ABOUT FINALLY OPENING!

10.The fragile economy will effect the developers' confidence in the Town Centre redevelopment project. ABSOLUTELY CORRECT; THEY PULLED OUT!

11.The council will attempt to charge visitors for Airbourne. CORRECT!!

12.Rudy Giuliani will become US President ER, WRONG BY A MILE!

13.Boris Johnson will become Mayor of London CORRECT!

14.Gordon Brown's government will struggle from one disaster to another, and will fall a consistent 15 points behind David Cameron's Conservatives in the polls. Nick Clegg will oversee a slight, but short lived rise in LibDem fortunes. CORRECT ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT BEING A DISASTER, BUT THE POLLS DON'T GIVE THE CONSERVATIVES THE LEAD I PREDICTED AT PRESENT. WRONG ABOUT NICK CLEGG – HE CONSISTENTLY EMBARRASSED HIMSELF AND DIDN'T GIVE THE LIBDEMS A BOOST IN THE POLLS.

15.Prince William will get engaged to Kate Middleton. WRONG

16.X Factors' Rhydian will be a much bigger star than Leon. CORRECT

17.Eastenders will continue to be the most over-rated and boring programme on TV. CORRECT (IN MY HUMBLE OPINION!)

18.Bruce Forsyth will become 'Sir Brucie', by the year end. WRONG – BRUCIE STILL WAITING

I make that 11.5 out of 18 – not too bad. Let's see how my 2009 predictions do;

1.There will not be a General Election this year

2.The Conservatives will retain control of East Sussex County Council.

3.Ken Clarke will re-enter front bench Conservative politics

4.The interest rate will hit 0% for the first time in UK history which will be a disaster for those with savings.

5.Barack Obama will have a series of public fall outs with Hillary Clinton, mainly over foreign policy

6.Ed Miliband will end the year being a more likely successor to Gordon Brown than his brother David

7.Nick Clegg will not end the year as LibDem leader

8.Airbourne will be free this year but the council will downgrade it to a two or three day show only, and therefore a shadow of its former self.

9.Eastbourne Borough Council will admit that it's blown its budget and council tax will go up massively more than inflation.

10.Eastbourne Borough FC will stay in the Blue Square Conference Premier League. Lewes won't.

By the way the Pantomime (Snow White) at the Devonshire Park theatre is again excellent…

Happy New Year friends!
