Those who gave their lives in conflict will be remembered this Sunday - and on Wednesday, November 11.
Hundreds will, as ever, gather at the war memorial in a testament to the enduring gratitude and respect of the nation.
Hundreds of volunteers in Eastbourne will also ensure that thousands of pounds is raised for the Royal British Legion to help with the welfare of ex-servicemen and their dependents.
The Legion may have believed at one time that the call on its support might decline with the passing of time - but this has shown not to be the case. With the terrible price being paid by soldiers serving in Afghanistan and Iraq, the issue is at the forefront of people's minds.
And the welfare of the troops is certainly a priority for local fundraisers, who are busy collecting and packaging up goodies to send out to them. Whatever one's opinion about the rights and wrongs of the situation, there is clear public support for those on the front line - and the sacrifices they are making.
It's a pity that the Government does not reflect that support in its own defence spending policy.
