Eastbourne RNLI’s inshore lifeboat was involved in a full scale search for a canoeist who was reportedly in trouble last night. However, the call-out eventually proved to be a false alarm.
Dover Coastguard received an emergency call shortly after 5.30pm saying that a person in a canoe was in trouble off Normans Bay.
Eastbourne’s inshore lifeboat and a mobile Coastguard unit were dispatched to the area to assist. After searching for over 90 minutes in sub zero temperatures, nothing was found. The volunteer crew were stood down and the incident logged as a false alarm with good intent.
