Globe trotting Eastbourne teddy bear ClaudeDebussy has scooped a global award for the town’s five star Grand Hotel.
Claude’s popular Facebook page and tweets have resulted in the hotel winning the Best Venue Social Media Campaign in the Prestigious Venues Star Awards.
Prestigious Venues is an online portfolio that showcases exclusive hotels, villas, restaurants, clubs and bars and other venues around the world. The social media category was one of ten awards announced at a gala event at London’s Cadogan Hotel.
Jackie Webley, the Grand Hotel’s marketing co-ordinator, said, “Two years ago we discussed ways to raise our social media presence and one of the ideas was to focus a campaign around the resident hotel bear, which is a popular souvenir in our shop.
“We set up a Facebook page followed by a Twitter account and hotel staff, guests and friends loved the idea and it snowballed from there. He now has more than 150 Facebook friends.
“We were delighted to hear Claude had been shortlisted for the award, which attracted entries from hotels around the world, and very excited to win it on the night. He will certainly have plenty to say on Facebook and Twitter now.”
Named after French composer Claude Debussy, who wrote his orchestral composition La Mer while staying at the Grand Hotel in 1905, Claude has visited 50 destinations.
