A COURSE offering parents the chance to gain a childcare certificate has been hailed a success.
Participants from Eastbourne and the surrounding areas attended the Level 1 Childcare course delivered at Hailsham Children’s Centre with ChildsPlay Training.
The course was set up as a new initiative working in partnership with Wealden Children’s Centre and the programme offered parents the opportunity to re-engage in learning in a supportive, nurturing environment, by completing a CACHE Level 1 Certificate in Caring for Children.
The programme aims were to build self-confidence amongst the participants, offer a stepping stone to further training at Level 2, investigate careers working with children and develop some practical skills to use with their own families.
Respecting and valuing children, health and safety in the home and learning through play in the natural environment are some of the areas covered on the course.
Staff at the Children’s Centre said parents were very committed to their course, they enjoyed it and a number of them were motivated to progress to Level 2 training and are working towards future careers with children.
Suzanne Green from ChildsPlay Training said, “On entry to this course, some of the participants had never completed a formal qualification.
“It is a huge measure of their commitment and desire to take responsibility for their future prospects, that 90 per cent of the group completed the course in full.”
Course tutor Jackie Putland said, “I have been so impressed by the quality of the work produced by these groups.
“Their willingness to take on new knowledge and try out new skills has exceeded my expectations.
“I am delighted so many will be progressing to Level 2 and look forward to see them all at our awards evening later this year.”
