AN Eastbourne charity shop has paid tribute to its volunteers. The Marie Curie Cancer Care shop in Langney Shopping Centre was the venue for the long-service awards presentation. Six staff members were given framed certificates and daffodil brooches to celebrate their service with the charity.
Receiving long service awards for 10 years were Maureen Kearton, Daphne Hopkins, Pam Burgess and John Chadwick. Five-year awards went to Joyce Parnell and Linda Daniels.
The afternoon was a double celebration as it is 10 years since the Kingfisher Drive shop opened. Staff were treated to a buffet to mark the occasion.
Shop manager Marian Dartnell said, “They work as a great team and are very committed. We are very proud of our volunteers. Without their service we couldn’t raise funds for a very worthwhile cause. The money helps Marie Curie Cancer Care provide nursing care and support to the terminally ill. £20 provides an hour of nursing care - a service totally free to patients and their families.”
