Charity shop asks for a extra donations after the celebrations end

A POLEGATE charity shop is running low on donations and hoping residents make an extra special effort in the wake of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Charity shops experience a downturn in donations during bank holidays and public holidays.

In response to the problem Age UK has launched the Royally Hot campaign and the people of Polegate and Eastbourne are being encouraged to look in their homes to see if there’s anything that they can give, from clothing and accessories to books and cookware.

The money raised by Age UK’s Royally Hot campaign will help the charity to deliver hands-on local services such as lunch clubs and home safety checks.

Lydia Buchanan-Bray, manager of the Age UK shop in Polegate said, “Holidays and celebrations during the summer interrupt our schedules and donations in our shop rapidly decline as a result – particularly this year with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, Olympics and Euro 2012.

“We’re hoping that the national Royally Hot campaign will act as a reminder to local people to donate quality unused clothing or goods to our Age UK shop, which is a great way to support the Charity and make a real difference when money is tight.” Donations can be deposited at the Age UK shop in Polegate or call 483180.
