YOUNG people in Eastbourne are being given the chance to enter the dragons’ den and bid for cash to kick-start their own special projects.
East Sussex County Council has hatched a plan to encourage individuals or youth groups to pitch their ideas to a panel of experts and explain why they deserve cash, with between £25 and £500 up for grabs.
Ten-minute slots are available between 11am and 3pm on Monday, October 29, and proposals could cover anything from improving an existing scheme, help in organising an event or starting up something completely new.
Members of Eastbourne Youth Forum will make up the panel of dragons, who promise to be friendly.
They are looking for exciting ideas that come from young people which will help improve things to do and places to go in the local area.
Bid funding comes from Eastbourne Youthbank, which has been set up to encourage young people to play an active part in the community by having a say in how money is spent for their benefit.
People wanting to make a pitch in the den must be between 11 and 19 and live in Eastbourne.
They will need to fill in a simple application form which must be submitted by October 22.
To qualify young people have to be able to show their ideas meet the following criteria:
r The project will benefit groups of young people (i.e. at least two or more individuals) living in Eastbourne.
r The young people have a supporting organisation happy to help them put forward their ideas and help them carry them out.
r The group can complete their project by the end of September 2013.
r The project is about improving things to do and the places to go in Eastbourne.
The project will take place in the Winter Garden as part of the Eastbourne Youth Fair.
There are lots of other events taking place from street-dance workshops to unicycling.
