SEAFORD is preparing for its first farmers market in years, thanks to the efforts of a local businesswoman.

Cathy Murphy was inspired to organise the event after holding fairs to advertise and sell her apple marmalade.

The Stafford Road resident set up her business Sussex Kitchen and met different people at the fairs who were keen on the idea of a farmers market coming to town.

Since then she has been working behind the scenes and has gained so much interest that the town will be home to its first farmers market in several years on Thursday, October 4.

The response has been overwhleming with 15 stallholders already confirmed for the day.

Visitors to the market, which is being held at Clinton Centre in Clinton Place between 10am and 2pm, can snap up lots of different goods including meats, cakes, fudge as well as different fabrics.

An award-winning cheesemaker is also set to have a stall at the event and Seaford MP Norman Baker is due to be making an appearance in the morning.
