CARNIVAL fever swept through Eastbourne on Saturday with the 2012 Sunshine Carnival.
Thousands of people lined the seafront to watch the carnival, which made a welcome return after a 15-year break.
And despite the cold and looming rain clouds, there was a great party atmosphere along the promenade as the crowds watched floats, made by community groups and businesses, walking entries, marching bands and skaters make their way from Fisherman’s Green to the Western Lawns.
More than 50 floats and 1,500 walking entries took part in the parade, organised by Stephen Lloyd’s MP’s Commission with carnival pageant master Dave Cooper.
Leading the procession were Eastbourne’s Carnival King and Queen Si McLean and Chelsea Spence and Carnival Prince and Princess Will Bevis and Chantelle Miles, who were chosen after a town wide competition to find carnival royalty.
Pageant Master Dave Cooper said he had been thrilled with the success of the carnival.
“We really have been overwhelmed by the support, both in the run up to the Eastbourne Sunshine Carnival 2012 and on the day itself with the crowds that lined the seafront to watch it,” he said.
“To everyone that took part or came out and braved the chilly evening to watch the carnival parade, a very big thank for their support. I hope everyone had a good evening and we will be back next year with an even bigger and better event.”
