Candidates battle for the region’s votes

Voters across Eastbourne, Hailsham and Seaford will go to the polls this week to elect a new county council.

Polling stations will open from 7am-10pm on Thursday May 2 and the results will be announced on Friday following counts across the area.

The last county council elections were held in June 2009 and the Conservatives maintained control of the authority.

A total of 49 councillors elected – 29 were Conservative, four Labour, 13 Liberal Democrats and three Independent.

Nick Bennett (C)

A current county councillor, Nick’s background is in policing in London and Sussex, where he moved in 2000 when he was promoted to superintendent in Sussex Police. After leaving the police he was involved in a number of local issues.
