ONE of the candidates hoping to be named police commissioner has challenged his rivals to “come clean on cuts to police numbers.”
County councillor Godfrey Daniel was recently revealed as the Labour Party candidate and the former magistrate has wasted no time in sticking the boot into his Conservative counterparts.
He said, “People in Sussex want to see police on their streets, but figures show the Tory-led Government’s cuts mean 254 already lost from our local
communities, with more cuts to come.
“Tories in Sussex need to be honest with people. Will they oppose these shocking 20 per cent cuts and fight for more money from the Tory-led Government, or do they support the cuts of 254 officers already gone from our area?
“People will assume the Tories in Sussex are simply cheerleaders for cutting our police officers.”
