AGE Concern Eastbourne is celebrating raising more than £7,000 to buy a new minibus.

The campaign kicked off last autumn at the 65th birthday celebrations in October by actor Larry Lamb and his TV presenter son George.

More than £7,000 was raised towards the cost of a bus.

Together with a grant from East Sussex County Council and a legacy, the local charity whose slogan is ‘give local help local’ will take delivery of the new minibus by the end of April. This will expand the service for shoppers and leisure users to 12 passengers with the added facility of a tail-lift for those with limited mobility or wheelchair users.

AGE Concern Eastbourne staff and volunteers will be manning a stand at the Arndale Centre close to Sainsburys on March 27 from 9am to 4pm.

For more information can be obtained by telephoning the Transport Department on 638474 or by visiting the receptionists at The Venton Centre in Junction Road.
