Two dedicated sportsmen have realised their ambitions and opened a gymnasium in Hailsham with the help of a Start Up Loan from Let’s Do Business Group.
GL Fitness opened its doors at the end of June and, based at the Apex Enterprise Park in Hailsham, they not only offer clients a varied workout with high-quality equipment, but also a range of exercise classes as well as a healthy Café Bar area.
Business partners Leon Lizzi, a bodybuilding expert, and Graham Hollands, who specialises in endurance training, have more than 20 years’ experience between them in fitness and have both previously worked at senior management level within the leisure industry.
The opening year was testing for the fitness gurus, with difficulties ranging from obtaining planning permission and building control planning approval to securing finance.
After struggling to obtain funding from high street lenders, the duo turned to the Let’s Do Business Group and each applied for the maximum Start Up Loan to help fund their new venture.
Leon said, “The personal loans supplied to us both were fundamental to the project. We simply wouldn’t have been able to set GL Fitness up without these. We now have the opportunity to run and operate our own business, which has essentially always been our dream career progression.”
The pair were also awarded a £25,000 grant from Locate East Sussex to fund the building works, equipment and employment creation. GL Fitness now employs one full-time and two part-time members of staff, as well as five freelance instructors.
